Western Digital Scorpio 250GB Laptop Hard Drive
Western Digital Corp has released its Western Digital’s Scorpio 250GB WD2500BEVS Scorpio 2.5-inch Serial ATA hard drive for laptop. The WD2500BEVS, use the same SATA connectors as regular 3.5” SATA drives, it supports spins at 5,400PRM and features perpendicular magnetic recording (PMR) technology for higher storage capacity in a small form factor. After formatted to NTFS you will get 232.88 of store capacity.
This is not a problem, as after three averaged tests under HD Tach we found that the drive’s maximum burst speed was only 124.93 MB/s; a speed which will rarely if ever be achieved in the real world. More useful than this are the average read speeds, which over the course of three tests averaged 44.13MB/s.
It also features a 12ms access time and 8MB of buffer cache memory and. Scorpio also includes ShockGuard for hard drive’s physical protection and WhisperDrive for quiet work. No word around availability. It retails for $299.
