Jing Project Beta-Release

Today we are getting our readers to know a free(for Beta-Release only) useful tool that lets you to recording or capturing anything that your pc desktop shows called ‘Jing‘. Following the success of the Windows screen capture SnagIt and the screencasting software Camtasia Studio, Techsmith has launched Jing Project, easy but efficient application for people that would to communicate contents or informations of their screen via web to other people in the planet.

I Talk about putting anything you display on your desktop inside a video with the possibility to sent it to anyone. While Camtasia and SnagIt played an integral role on professionals users, Jing takes advantage from this software to reach more people and offer them a free solution that allows them to share contents.

If your friend on the other area of the city is trying to show you what went wrong with his word application, Jing lets him screen capture, or screencast.

“Your content is hosted on Screencast.com, for which we are providing a complimentary account to all participants during this project. Users have 200MB of space for storing screenshots and screencasts and 1 GB of bandwidth that renews monthly. The Screencast.com account will remain available to you for the duration of the project.”

It a great way to share information with other people without having to explain procedure for example via the phone. So, you can show it how to learn to fix it. You can do a video recording of your work and you can sent it simply with a email. The main interface is an exercise in usability and layout are impressively clean.

Once you have decided the area of the screen, you can decide what I would like to do with it. So, you can then share, save or cancel your own work. We were only disappointed by the lack of option for video edit but also because Jing Project can only save to your desktop in .swf format, so if you don’t have an .swf player on your pc you cannot to upload to the major video sharing service like YouTube, or Joost. Also, one thing that lets things down with Jing for me, is that Linux are unsupported.

Here an overview of what it support:

Windows:
Windows XP or Vista
Microsoft .Net Framework 3.0
8MB hard drive
1GB RAM
Flash Player 6

Mac:
Mac OSX 10.4.9
8MB hard drive
1GB RAM
Flash Player 6

What does it cost? It’s free for now!

Internet connection. If time is on your side, feel free to use dialup, otherwise we recommend a broadband connection.

Conclusion

Compare Jing with others professional screen capture service. I think the difference’s quite obvious. However, the Jing Project developers have bring a simple but effective application dedicated to get screen capture from your pc desktop, offering a very help to the people that want take a screencast, or take a quick video. In this age where everything is revolved around speed I think there are a lot users that would to use this services when it want to sharing useful information via e-mail.
