Google Presentation vs. PowerPoint

Maybe more than any other type of document, presentations are created to be shared. But assembling slide decks by emailing them around is as frustrating as it is time-consuming. The new presentations feature of Google Docs helps you to easily organize, share, present, and collaborate on presentations, using only a web browser.

A few month have passed since Google has officially added presentation to its Google Docs, and its spreadsheet app. But, much time is not passed that a new Google service has snapped up quickly. If you want to get easy web presentations, upload your PPT or PPS slideshows, images, formatting your text and so on, but also if you want to save money on the Microsoft applications, now this service is just for you.

Google Presentation which is completely free for you to sign-up and use, is a very useful platform that allows users to share information, and make available for editing to other peoples or consultants. You can see a link in your mail box when entering on your Gmail account. Clicking the link up opens a new window where you can view the Google presentation interface in action.

The features are still the point of differentiation amongst Google presentation module and Microsoft’s PowerPoint and Apple’s Keynote. Even though some features on the Google presentation is largely missing, I’ve been happy enough with it so far and however Google has done a very good job.

If you have not yet realized it, Google has created a very PowerPoint killer. Traditional PowerPoint as you know it and have seen it grow next to you, is in irreversible decline. Google Presentations has a lot to offer right still and I can see Microsoft starting to worry of their Office suite.

Some of the main features offered with the new Google presentation includes:

  • Users can embed voice talk or chat while they’re watching the online presentation.
  • Google PowerPoint combined with Google talk allows to work simultaneously at the same presentation without ever interfering with each other.
  • 15 built-in themes.
  • Text formatting (font, size, colors).
  • Another point worth referring is that Google new presentation is available in 25 different languages as well as to all Google Apps customers.
  • Google Presentations can support .ppt and .pps files formats (but not the newer 2007. PPTX files).

Google presentation includes an option for download a ZIP file containing an HTML presentation pack for local computer use.

One the better think is that you can upload and share file by simply providing their URL. As I mentioned before, Google Docs Presentations supports .ppt and .pps files format and a maximum file size of 10 MB.

Google presentation include a very simple module that allow you to choose between a large  number of themes. These presentation templates provide a new look to all the slides in a presentation. In fact, one thing that lets things down is the theme of Google initially provided. It’s very poor.

In terms os ease of use and functionality, theGoogle presentation providing one of easiest ways to create slides for you online presentation, where you can edit Text font, size, and color. We only disappointed by the lack of advanced formatting commands as devoted to paragraph and line spacing.

Pros

It’s very similar built like Power Point and it does a fairly good job. Very easy to use. Quick Revisions. Well organized UI. Each work can be shared with as many friends. Allows to publish online through an embed code supplied by Google.

Cons

We only wished a great screen output, and a maximum file size supported for imported PowerPoint files more capable. The present maximum size supported for PowerPoint files is 10 MB, just for creating 3 to 10 simple slides for a quick presentation.

Conclusion

Now, we can say Google Presentation is a direct competitor to Microsoft PowerPoint and has a lot of potential to offer an alternative and highly profitable for those can not to spend to buy for Gates products. Whetever Google Presentation has a very limited options compare to Microsoft, the thing I would really like in the near future are three: First developed and used offline. The second, let us embed video from. Third, lets us embed sound. It’s a definitely an idea and a service whose time has come.
