Google AdSense Update: Make Ad Units Less Clickable And Low CTR

Google recently has done some changing on their advertising system: The first change is that they’ve renamed ‘site targeting’ with ‘placement targeting ‘.

Anyone who has an AdWords Standard Edition account, Google lets advertisers to target their ads to an entire site, but also to groups on base upon how you’ve set your channels up.(for example only the intere business pages of a news website).

How Do I Create Placement-Targeted Ad Campaigns?

To create a new placement-targeted campaign, follow these steps:

  1. Log in to your AdWords Standard Edition account at https://adwords.google.com (if you’re not already logged in).
  2. On the Campaign Summary page, find the table titled Online Campaigns.
  3. Click Placement-targeted in the ‘Create a new campaign’ section at the top of the table.
  4. Follow the sign-up wizard instructions to create your campaign.

The second chance is that they’re now allowing advertisers to target sites with CPC ads(cost per click) rather than just CPM ads(cost per thousand impression).

Google Protect The Rights Of Their Advertisers.  Adsense Low Ctr?

Google is always seeking the ways to stop on click fraud when, a computer program, automated script, or person imitates a legitimate user of a web browser clicking on an ad. The new Google move that should serve as way to limit accidental clicks, is that to restricting the area where a user can click on within an ad unit.

However, I notice that not all ad unit are been changed. The 468×60 and 234×60 ad unit are still clickable on the text of ads.

We’re rolling out a change to our text ad formats to help reduce accidental clicks and increase value for advertisers…..This new format will match the changes we’ve implemented on Google.com to help decrease the number of accidental clicks and increase the number of ad conversions. A reduction in accidental clicks will keep users on your pages, interacting with your content until they choose to click on an ad. This change will enhance the user’s overall experience with your websites and improve advertiser campaign value, but it’s likely that your click-through rate will decrease.

Consequences

Many people think that Google is going to cut their Adsense earnings. Instead, I think that we probably won’t see the full impact. I don’t expect to see any major changes in my revenue. And however, I think that there is one positive aspect for publisher. Advertisers will have more money to spend on ads. And you know what that means.

I do have an important question that I’d love to get answer to – I know if you found your Adsense CTR changed? I noticed my own CTR is lower today than any other day for this month and I want to know if has had affect on your.
