I recently had occasion to read about one particular argument called selective perception. For those who don’t know, today I’ve put up an interesting post about it. I love to hear thoughts of my readers, so if you’ve written about it, feel free to leave a link to your advice in comment below.
People tend to see things as them believe more than as they really are. Have you ever noticed when a person want one thing and after two days sees that other people have the same thing because like to them? This is called influence of selective perception.
Selective perception is the process that makes consumers able to choosing what will make or what makes consumers process stimuli most relevant to their needs and evaluation. And we each do this continually in a process called perceptual vigilance.
In brief, we see what we want to see and react accordingly. The process of choosing may refer to process stimuli where expectations affect perception. We tend to perceive things according to our beliefs.
The Trigger Events we experience change what we see. Every time we experience a Trigger Event a new version of selective perception is created.
For instance, have you ever bought a cell phone? Once made you will notice how many other guys like you have the same device. we act with the selective attention. Another instance, is when you buy a cell phone. One particular similarities strikes us. The advertisements for cell phone are all over the same place. Another instance of selective perception.
The Same Concept Applied In Marketing
I can say that one of best things I have learned about marketing, is the importance of the perception. How do consumers perceive the brand, the product, how do they perceive competitors. In little word you must Know your target market. Knowing your target market implies that you are able to understand what users really want.
Your goal is to focus in one target market. Once made, capture user attention, find out the similarities and build regular traffic and large numbers of users.
Why is this important? By focusing on those you can use the words, visuals, or scenarios, that are highly likely to resonate with them. Watch what happens. Test, test, test. Some of visitors more likely to become your customers, too.
