Google has created quite a buzz for itself in these month by announcing a new experimental website that puts information online similar to more known online encyclopedia Wikipedia. Thus, as promised recently Google launched Knol, a place which allows anyone to publish professional articles about different topics.
Compared to Wikipedia which anyone is free to revise, Knol allows visitor to edit any articles, but changes need to be approved by the authors of the articles. Also, each Knol pages, displays credentials of each authors, included pictures.
Make Money Online With Knol
How do I make money from Knol? Google will not describe the project in detail, according to source any publisher will get a percentage of income derived from articles.
Of course one key question that shouldn’t be ignored is if Google are competing with its partners. According to Google CEO Eric Schnidt, Google is not a media company. Eric says:
“But that doesn’t make us a media company. We don’t do our own content, we get you to someone else’s content faster”.
Knol: Wikipedia Killer Or Publisher Killer?
Blogosphere are debating if Knol can be a Wikipedia killer. The fact is that there’s a lot of talk about how Knol will rank in Google’s search result in the next two years. If will become more easy for a publisher to grab the number 1 ranking for many terms in Google, this will be a point in favor for Knol and a damage for Wikipedia and for small publisher that work for it.
Now we just have to wait to see if Knol page will take speedy the first position on Google search engine and become so the big winner.
Spam
But can we be one hundred percent certain that the articles submitted are not used for other purpose. It is open knowledge that similar services like Squidoo that allow to generate significant incomes through advertising and affiliate revenue can be open to abuse. I think google will put a large number of people to monitor that this don’t happens.
Conclusion
Knol aims at the professionality and credibility of the articles, through use of references to its sources, job history, and institutional affiliation of the author. This can attract experts which prefer a journalistic and academic publications style.
Currently, only with invitation you are able to participate in the project, but Google will open up Knol to the public soon. However, to be honest, I’m not really sure how this will impact publisher. So I would love to hear your thoughts on this especially if could be a bad for blogging.
