Why Bloggers Leave Money On The Table?

Every month I’ll get at least a handful of emails from people asking “how I make profit from my blog?”, or something to that effect. Getting money blogging is a complex work and I’d like to give a little advices in this post.

Many people think that should run AdSense on their blog, and it’s true, but I disagree if your blog is new for one reason. Adsense income depends by many factors that only Google knows about. If one of your sites performs poorly, you will be paid less per click.

Anyone has a blog with a wordPress theme can add more than one 125×125 banner advertising space on their sidebar. This is a great way to make additional income stream. In this case, the choice of price of ad-space is a very personal thing.

I noticed some bloggers offer up their precious ad space for a pittance. In my view, if you have only 10000 visitors to your blog a month, then you can charge $20. Once your site increase the number of  visitors you can doubled your advertising rates to $100. 125×125 isn’t the only format that many bloggers make use. 728×60 header or 120×600 Skyscrapers are other formats that work well.

Also, many of better affiliate marketers like johnchow and Tyler Cruz make using of Peel Away Ads as banner alternative. It’s different from the commons banner. Peel Away ads makes the blog look like a paper page and the ad is revealed when you “peel away” the page.

Being my blog in the make money niche I’ve lot of chance to have success with affiliate programs. All my affiliate sales I got each month, come from posts that I had written a long time first or from affiliate banners I put into my blog.

I use many ways to promote my affiliate offers. Once I developed a good readership, I promoting product and services in my newsletters which allows me to reach out other bloggers in my niche, or use my blog as platform to drive readers into my 125×125 banner advertising space, Peel away ads, 768×60 header, an so on.

In the end, one of the main reason people leave money on the table with their blog is why they not always make using of cloaked affiliate links to redirect their affiliate pages. Affiliate programs do not take the trouble of cloaking their affiliate links, and you could losing up to 50% of affiliate commission.
