When the prices at the gas pumps were increasing this summer, the only way I could continue without exit out with my budget was to reduce the line item marked Grocery.
It was very hard to find the bargains all the time, especially when you have little time to go to the store.
Here, some tips that help me significantly to reduced my family’s monthly grocery bill. These grocery store tips have helped me to save between $100 and $200 a month and see my monthly grocery budget dropping down.
1. Create a shopping list - The first line of defense against the power of the grocery store is to create a shopping list. First, watch what you already have in your cupboards and create a shopping list using the products that are on sale that week.
Do not buy things that is not on your list. Even if you believe one thing you need it, remember, you didn’t need it when you were at home, then you didn’t need it when you are inside the store.
2. Choosing a store cards and loyalty cards - Sign up for a store card that offers a discount on your shopping, particularly if you plan to buy most of your food, drink and presents in one place.
3. Use “loss leaders” products - Usually, are called “loss leaders”, the lowest prices of the season, so it is worth buying additional items if you use them in the next weeks. For example: When a supermarket advertises a food like, basic vegetables, soda, that is very widely consumed, at a price below their normal level of profit.
4. Consider using coupons - There are websites that allows you to save money electronically on different products. Coupon code can make a huge difference if you follow several coupon blogs. Thus, here are my favorite websites: Shortcuts.com, Cellfire, P&G eSaver, Upromise. These websites allow you to sign up at each website and the coupons will be deducted automatically from your receipts.
