Usually, when I’m planning to make money through affiliate marketing I tend to consider affiliate programs with both high and small commission.
Recently, I tweet this question “Which affiliate product do you promote?”, and I was not surprised I received different answers.
If on one hand a product or service with an high cost have an higher commission for each sale is made and less traffic you need to meet your revenue goals, on the other hand some affiliate marketers prefer to promote an affiliate product with a smaller commission because are more easy to convert into sales.
Which Affiliate Programs Do I Promote?

In general, my aims is to promote affiliate products with both high commission and small commission.
As I said before, promoting big items could bring large commissions for every sales done. For instance, by reading Affiliate Handbook I’ve discovered that if you promote Elite TR6633 Treadmill which sells for $6,495.00 as an affiliate of MegaFitness, they will pay you a 10% commission… or $649.50. Not bad!
However, especially in these month, I’ve noticed a grow of affiliate sales with smaller commission.
For instance, recently I’ve promoted a series of VistaPrint business card. The average commission for each sale is from $15 to $20.
What it done the difference compared other products with small commission was the quality of the product. So we sold 50 packages of Vista print in one month.
So at the end, in my experience, the best strategy is to promote different products with both higher and smaller commission

Thanks Aswani! I’m testing affiliate programs from 3 years by now. Some worked well with me, other not. In my view, there’s no secret, you need to test it every day, and have a lot of patience.
