For newbie and veteran that want to start a blog from scratch, choosing a domain name is the first and most important decision to take and is therefore something they need to choose carefully.
Creating an own domain name is important for many blogger because you build trust and a professional blog that is crucial if you want grow your business.
Choosing the right domain name can help you to enhance the branding of a product, or service.
There are several factors to consider when choosing a domain name. If you are a newbie or a veteran, below I listed some tips to add to your blogging experience:
A short domain is better – Keep a domain name that is easier to remember for your customer. For instance, my latest domain name “cabinrentalsideas” are doing very well in the search engines.
Goals: It’s important to think at your future and have a long term vision for your blog, if you want to appeal to professional or young people. For instance, a domain name like “cabinrental” is certainly low competitive, but what you need to know is that you have a limited choice when you must find new topic for your blog post.
Topic of your blog – Most of domain names reflect the topic of the blog. For instance, if your blog is about making money online you could look at makemoneyonline.com or makemoneytips.com and so on.
Source of Traffic – Another thing you need to check is the type of traffic that you want to build around to your website/blog. In order to help you to make the right choice, you need to know that the traffic to a blog generally comes from three main sources: Loyal readers, search engines, and from other sites(link back).
Keywords and Branding – When you choose a domain name you can achieve both. While the first type of option incorporate keywords about your blog, in the second option these domains might often have some relation to their topic in order to have an identity. One example of a domain name that include both, is Endgadget which has become a memorable and well branded name that incorporates ‘gadget’ into it.
Thinking ahead – Financial crisis has stashed the revenue of many who relied solely an market. So, if you are thinking to start a blog from scratch, remember to think where are going the market. I’ve seen several bloggers starting a new blog with domains that reflect the topic of the blog, but without thinking how will evolve the market.
