These days my blog the3dtechnologies, no longer has the problems of getting traffic…. but there was a time not too long ago when the3dtechnologies was just a baby going through the inevitable growing pains.

Is a fact that for a newbie, start generating traffic on a blog is quite tricky, and often with the risk to make mistakes.

To help you avoid the common mistakes that any newbie blogger do when start their first blog, today I’ve throught to put down a huge list of tips and resource on based of my experience in these three years.

1. Leave comment – Keep track of blog with high PR and leave comments on them. Post comments on other blogs that are related to yours. Install, Woopra, so you can check in real time which are the blog that bring you free traffic.

2. Start a new thread on forum – Find forum related your topic with active members. Some of them lets you add your site link in your signature, but the most appealing side is that they let you to add your feed rss as well. So, if your latest post is about “5 ways to triple your Google Adsense income”, then you can start a thread about Google Adsense, for instance “today I get $15 from Adsense”, so members of the forum see latest post you’ve wrote on your blog.

3. Using ping services – Once your blog is updated, you can inform search engine and aggregators like technorati of this change. All you need to do is to use the ping functionality. Here’s I’ve put a list of useful ping services:

4. Join to community – They will give you lots of exposure, especially on those sites like Facebook and Twitter. Through Facebook you can also create your own group or fan page. Of course, the3dtechnologies.com have its fan page, so if you want to subscribe you’re welcome.

5. Update your site design – WordPress give you the ability to have new theme to change the overall look of your blog and make your site more attractive to the eye of your readers. Also, you can submit it to CSS gallery showcase sites and get more exposure to your site.

6. Write good content – The better thing is to creates long-term traffic more than value. Consider writing posts with resources or explaining how things work. Useful things get linked to and they get onto del.icio.us, which is far better long-term than a digg front page.

7. Participate in Yahoo Answers and LinkedIn Answers – These are two great place where you can put your site url. To attract visitors to your site demonstrate your expertise, and most probably you attract new readers.

8. Squidoo Lenses and HubPage - Squidoo Lenses and HubPages are a good way to generate traffic. You can create your own community which is a good way to generate traffic.

9. Multilanguage content - I’ve tested a pay translator plugin but I’ve had some problem with it. However, it can be a good way to attract readers that are not fluent in english.

10. RSS submission sites – There are a lot of sites that allows you to add your feed rss. To simplify the process, I suggest you to keep a glance at my list of blog directory. The list is very long and can help you to get more exposure.

11. Article directory – Submit your content to article directory, like Ezinearticle or Go Articles. If you do not have time to write every article, you can rewrite old articles through the article rewriting software. Another way to save your time to write articles is to purchase a one-time package or a monthly PLR articles.

12. Competitor – If you deliver great results in a search where there is low competition, searchers will reminder you, re-visit you and occasionally, write about and link to you.

  The tool I want to show today is really cool. The guys behind Nmap.org, according to Alexa, have scanned the top 1 million sites on the web, and created a tool that allows to show the result based the favicon graph of each one. The size of each favicon in the graph indicate the traffic each website has.

  I wanted to try the service, so I used the search function, and here the result(look the image above). The only problem with my site is that the service doesn't show my latest favicon, but the favicon of my Frugal theme yet. Maybe has need to be upgraded to get the latest favicon logo.
  
  If you have an Alexa rank below 1,000,000, you are able to identifying the favicon of your website and the websites you know. Also, it allows you to zoom in and out. Through their search box you should be able to find your favicon in a few second.
