Best Ways To Prepare Yourself For A Job Loss

These days we’re receiving bad news about the implications of the current economic crisis and recession at international level.

According to Guardian:

Britain’s economy will be hit hard by further turmoil in the eurozone, David Cameron has warned, despite widespread relief on world financial markets as a new leader was installed in Greece and Italian politicians backed harsh austerity measures.

The problem is that no one can predict what will happen in the next months. You never know if a new recession could be on the way and when the ax will fall.

What might be the consequences of this, then?

Well, as result of recession, you could see your job in danger and risk to be laid off at anytime.

You could risk to be unemployment for months or years, and this isn’t good for many reasons. In these cases often people get depressed, and worst they stop in looking for a new job.

So, if you think your job is in jeopardy, or this could happen very soon, you need to prepare yourself ahead of time. Here I just put 3 things you can do to help in this case:

1. Prioritize – Start spending on items that you think are the most important to you. Since the economy is instable, we should be preparing to prioritize. Check up what is your badget and avoid all unnecessary purchases. Buy only items that you think are most important to you. Consider what cannot avoid paying for.

2. Save money as you can – This is the most important rule, in my view. Creating an emergency fund. Put the money you are no longer spending there. You could have need of it when your job is in danger. The first you start building your extra fund the more extra money you’ll save.

3. Start finding other sources of income – When I seen I was about to lose my job as engineer, the first thing I did it was to looking for an alternative.

Blogging was the alternative source of income. All I need to pay was a domain name and a WordPress theme. Having a multiple source of income will put yourself in safe when your job is in anger.

4. Move in advance –  It is a fact that the longer you’re off of your work, the more hard is for employers to engage you. So, if you think you’re losing your job, start looking for new job while still working in orther to make sure you’re ready for another one.

I hope you will never be in danger with your job, anyways just because you’ll never know what will happens in the next future, is always better to prepare in advance to any event.

So, if you’ve any other advice, feel free to share it in the comment below.

What Was Your Worst Job Ever?

In the last two years, finding the job is hard work, and once you’ve found one, often are the worst. I’ve graduated in engineering and I’ve did different jobs in my life, ranging from worst to best, and from hard to easy. Before graduated, after spending weeks looking for job, my jobs are been:

  • 1. Part-time cashier at Nike store.
  • 2. Part-time cashier at McDonald’s.
  • 3. Webmaster for a website.

With the bad economy, student are less likely to leave their current positions because of the difficulty in finding new opportunity of work despite they have the worst jobs ever found. It’s common for new jobs to feel trapped in their job because of credit, student loan bills card debts, etc.

After my degree, my situation has not improved. My first worst jobs was in a Study of Engineer. Despite the fact that I had to do the exact same job and sharing the exact same responibility of others, my employer wanted only pay transport costs.

What I learned from my worst job:

  • Some employer are really bad employer. I don’t want one of those people as my boss.
  • Some employer really pay less your job. Often, a payless job isn’t a worst jobs.
  • Some employer intimidate graduates only because they no have experience. Better to think before you accept any job offer.

However, be able to do any work is already a sign of maturity at any age.

You can’t find the perfect recipe for find the perfect job. Sure, there are many jobs out there that might be very bad, but there are many others that aren’t as bad as you think. Not completely crap!

I am now a full-time blogger, because I spend hours every day pouring over blogs, sites, social networks, etc. My current job is great because is not requires to do something that is in the opposite of what I like to do. I’m always free to decide what is best for me.

Many people stay at their jobs because of fear that there isn’t anywhere else to go. I had the strength to change my worst jobs with something that I like, that gives me satisfaction, and make me feel independent.

And you? What was your worst job? What did you learn from it?

How To Find A Good Job In A Bad Economy

Recently, my friend john, e-mailed me with a question about the economic crisis. He ask what I really think about the job prospects after the recent increase unemployment at its highest rate.

In my view, prospects are not good. People who are unhappy with their stable position or however are not what they want to do are reluctant to quit because they’re afraid they won’t be able to find another better.

Today, graduates can’t find work easily or however accept any part-time job with no benefits and less pay.

I don’t want accept a job that make me unhappy, but I don’t want makes something that isn’t secure, as well.

Thus I figured it would be worthwhile to give some techniques to increasing the chance of securing a job.

Using the network – Increasing the number of people that can help you find a job. Organize  meetings with anyone give you possibility for permanent employment.

Talk about yourself, and be optimistic – One of the negative things of being unemployed is mental attitude. Despite the realistic situation is important keep a positive mindset.

Build a list – Create a list of your specific marketable skills can be applied to specific jobs. Create a list of industry of interest and keep updated. Stay informed by read your area Business Journal.

Build a portfolio of work samples – If you want that employer feel  secure about you, a well portfolio is key. Use your portfolio presentation to show your ability to think outside the box. If you want to highlight skills, you need to be creative. Make your portfolio a little more interactive, engaging and interesting.

In my view, these advices can be useful, but if you have other tips for finding a good job in a bad economy, don’t hesitate to leave a comment.
